todd mclellan

Check out the work of mr todd mclellan, it is certainly mind blowing stuff!

Engineering made pretty in these dissected images. It reminds me a lot of Cornelia Parker's installations with such a fantastic sense of space and perspective, the use of photography capturing that same magical element of a freeze-frame - blink and you'll miss it - moment in time.

The decorative composition of all the components create such a beautifully balanced graphic image, the variety of shapes and sizes delicately playing off one another to form unexpected patterns and inviting the viewer deeper into the image. The mystical delicacy of the dissected parts really contrast to the object as a finished product, a typewriter is bulky and heavy, yet this image would suggest otherwise with its weightless-ness feel.

Harking back to the good old days (before computers ruled the world) this sturdy machine, which would have been originally engineered and built by hand, is an incredible accomplishment, this image in particular is certainly an appreciation of the engineering brilliance of the industrial era.

I certainly take for granted the inventions of modern day living that spring back from the U.K's history as an industrial powerhouse and according to articles I've read by Mr. Dyson, (inventor of the Dyson vacuum cleaner) our nation needs to once again be enchanted by the field of engineering if we are to compete with the rest of the world in the industrial export industry. This series of works by Todd Mclellan will have a fair few fans and I'd certainly like to think may just draw some attention to the wonders of engineering and along the way inspire a new generation of inventors. Vive la revolution!

One more thought....I wonder how long it took to take this thing apart?!who knew there were so many parts! On the same trail of thought, was it put back together?!?

Small Trip, Big Memories

just spent a lovely few days down in the big smoke, blessed with perfectly springlike weather and catching up with old friends made it hard to leave, but I suppose all good things must come to an end. (heavy sigh) The charms of THE CITY have certainly worked their magic and since a visit to Rosie's fell through at the last minute I shall have to return sooner rather than later to settle my grumbling stomach.

A quick hello to all those I met at the School of Life conversation drinks in Clerkenwell and a big thank you to the friend for the invite. And if anyone living or visiting London is up for something different that may just make you think a little bit more, you should definitely check out the friendly folk at the School of Life.

At least I return home for celebrations as I grow older by another year, and I feel rather lucky to have such wonderful family and friends who make it such an occasion! Could do with some hummingbird bakery cupcakes now though......

decisions...

I've been working pretty hard recently, which is good and made me realise I have a slight affinity to develop workaholic tendencies (well you know, a little OCD doesn't hurt anyone). It has however made me ponder what I'm working towards at the moment and what the future may hold based on the decisions I make, especially after an interesting offer thrown up yesterday. I have always been tentative at decision making and lack the necessary self confidence I need but I am certainly making a conscious effort to be a little more....well ruthless.

Another decision that, even with a devoted love of food and cooking, is so hard to contemplate - what shall I cook for dinner?

In the meantime, I have just discovered this girl with the most amazing voice...this is her version of mumford and sons timshel with her sisters singing backing vocals and I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Friday 25 February 2011

My, I certainly cannot believe we are nearing March already....having said that I am so excited for spring and some lovely sunny days, summery fashion and of the absolute pleasure of eating ice cream without it feeling just ever so wrong (although in my opinion, ice cream is always ever so right).

As of yesterday, I have been officially reunited with the internet via my new phone line in my beautiful new place (thank you Mr BT man). Therefore to celebrate I have done a little blog reading and a little online shopping to compensate for the last several weeks that I have been without :) and let me tell you it feels good, cannot wait for my parcels to arrive! I do however wish I could purchase this beaut in an adult version as it is the most interesting and amazing product i've seen in a long time - not to mention super practical....in fact I may even whip up a little DIY version in the meantime

Thursday 27 January 2011

Now I realise that there has been no new post for several weeks and that everyone probably thought I'd tumbled off the blogging bandwagon again, but no....panic over, I have just been super busy, mostly settling into my lovely new home and making it all beautiful. But I do admit, much to my dismay, that we still have no internet. Grrrrr!

In the meantime, here is just a little snippet of some recent work i've been beavering away at in my (limited) spare time!
