beautiful copenhagen!
A few weeks ago, a friend invited me on a secret christmas trip whereby I would agree to make myself fully available for 3 days, hand over £160 and leave every detail - including destination - in his adventurous hands. With questions paddling back and forth in anticipation of the expedition, the only information I managed to extract was that it would be fairly chilly, with the warmest temperature being a teeth chattering 0 degrees. Thus, early on saturday morning I made my way to the airport with a small bag packed with (hopefully) enough relevantly warm clothing, to discover we were boarding a plane bound for....COPENHAGEN!!!
And with a love of scandinavian culture and design, probably bordering on an obsession, our journey got off to a very good start.
Cue a beautiful three days in the crisp, cool air of Denmark incorporating danish pastries, various takes on the traditional Smorgasbord, coffee, Glogg and cosy candlelit dinners.
A perfect christmassy treat and a right royal thank you to my adventurer friend.

a little bit of shopping
soo this weekend was a pretty good weekend and apart from a small shift at work, fun times were had. A second visit to the mighty christmas markets to drink mulled wine and eat yet another apple strudel kick started the weekend into action and although the cold has almost certainly settled in my spirit won't be beaten!
I also did a wee bit of shopping, and rather selfishly no christmas gifts were in sight (i know I'll regret it later) but I managed to snap up a few bargains not to mention this fabulous dress from whistles...the print is amazing!
Saw Matthew Bourne's 'Cinderella' this weekend and it definitely deserves a mention as it was awesome, I have seen several of his productions and they are always so fresh and vibrant, the visuals were stunning and the staging was more like cinematography in places. I really admire his confidence in terms of his artistic vision, as always with his shows, turning a classic around on its head and literally going out full whack on every aspect from music to wardrobe, drawing in the audience and removing the classic stereotype of traditional ballets. Oh and the theatre experience is utterly under-rated - 20 minute intervals and ice cream like the good old days - you cannot beat it!

UP THERE from The Ritual Project on Vimeo.
I've just stumbled across this incredible film showcasing the amazing talent and skill of those people who still hand paint advertisements on buildings in NYC. I am absolutely in awe of their talent and watching this beautiful film, greatly admire the fact that these people genuinely love their job despite the dangerous and unfriendly climates they work in!I hope there will always be a place for these advertisements despite modern technology meaning cheaper and faster alternatives......

Having spent almost a full day indulging myself with the visual pleasures of the internet, namely blogs by designers/artists and fellow graduates - and the infinite worlds that exist when you follow endless links, I feel generously renewed, inspired and maybe just slightly cross-eyed. I learnt courtesy of pentagram (http://pentagram.com/en/new/2010/01/what-type-are-you.php) that if i was to be reincarnated in the form of typography, i would be pistilli roman......and as beautiful a type it is i' still not completely sure what that means.
I also watched this talk by Jack featherstone on the 'its nice that' site, watch it here http://www.itsnicethat.com/articles/1913-talk-12-jack-featherstone. its great to see how early projects develop and grow into something exciting - and realising the key is to not put too much pressure on an idea but to just work it through. only wish Id learnt this sooner.
